White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow is accusing Democrats of using impeachment as a distraction. While speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, Kudlow said the impeachment process has not impacted the economy or the stock market.
Top Republicans in the Senate are hoping to put a stop to the push for witnesses in the impeachment trial against President Trump. Some conservatives, including Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), are warning both moderates in their conference and Democrats that if Democrats can call witnesses then the president should be able to call whoever he wants.

The House has passed a resolution authorizing impeachment managers, which sets up the Senate for the long awaited impeachment trial. The resolution passed 228-to-193 mostly along party lines Wednesday. Only one Democrat, congressman Collin Peterson of Minnesota, sided with Republicans on the “no” vote, while nine lawmakers did not cast a vote at all.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has yet to release the text of the motion to dismiss the impeachment charges against President Trump. The Kentucky lawmaker has reportedly been surveying members of his conference to gauge support for a dismissal, but apparently GOP senators are generally not interested in such a move as some attempt to remain impartial ahead of the upcoming 2020 primaries.
