Rahmanullah Lakanwal pleads not guilty, appearing virtually from hospital bed

The 29-year-old Afghan man accused of fatally shooting one National Guardsman and severely injuring another in Washington, D.C., last week, appeared virtually from his hospital bed on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to all of his charges.

Trump issues WH invitation to both families of Nat’l Guard members shot in D.C.: ‘We’re going to honor Sarah and likewise with Andrew’

Following last week’s targeted ambush shooting of two West Virginia National Guard members, Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom and Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, leading Beckstrom to succumb to her injuries the next day, President Donald Trump revealed that he personally invited the families of both service members for a visit.

Afghan suspect in Nat’l Guardsmen Shooting to be charged with first-degree murder following Beckstrom’s passing

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro announced Friday that charges against Rahmanullah Lakanwal, the 29-year-old Afghan national accused of ambushing and shooting two newly sworn-in National Guardsmen near the White House on Wednesday, have been upgraded to first-degree murder following the death of 20-year-old West Virginia National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom.

President Donald Trump announced that one of the two U.S. National Guard members from West Virginia who were shot by an Afghan national near the White House has tragically succumbed to her injuries.
