Healthcare workers around the country oversee patients in a program called Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) that ensures carriers of the tuberculosis bacteria take their medication. Tuberculosis is a contagious disease of the lungs that is spread through the air and kills around 2 million people annually, mainly in third world countries. CDC: Kansas Faces ‘Largest Tuberculosis Outbreak In U.S. History’

U.S. health officials in Kansas and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that Kansas is now facing the “largest tuberculosis (TB) outbreak in United States history.”

Louisiana Confirms First ‘Severe’ Case Of Bird Flu In The U.S.

A resident in Louisiana has been hospitalized with the first “severe” case of H5N1 bird flu, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced, making it the first case in the United States.
