At least 5 dead, more than 640,000 without power due to southern U.S. storms

Five people were killed and more than 640,000 customers were without power across the South on Sunday afternoon as storms and catastrophic weather continued to whip across the region, according to the tracking website PowerOutage.us.

Gov. Abbott calls special session to address taxes and border issues

Just hours after lawmakers ended the year’s regular legislative session without enacting numerous key bills that state leaders had prioritized, Governor Greg Abbott called an urgent special session.

Republican states lead the charge in border security

As the crisis on the southern border increases, Republican-led states have answered Governor Greg Abbott’s call for help and are sending troops, law enforcement, and other resources to help with securing the border.
