White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has warned that the recent U.S. government shutdown will likely lead to thousands of federal layoffs — pointing to Democrats’ refusal to work with the GOP — which the administration maintains prompted the shutdown.

Vice President JD Vance has publicly stated that he believes the federal government will go into its first partial shutdown in nearly seven years on Wednesday night — citing a lack of agreement between Republicans and Democrats.

Senate fails to pass CR, Sen. Fetterman only Dem to side with GOP

The Senate has failed to pass a House-approved continuing resolution intended to fund the federal government and avoid a shutdown. While most Senate Democrats voted against the measure due to policy disagreements, one Democrat joined the Republicans in support.
