A fan attending the Wednesday night game between the Chicago Cubs and the host Pittsburgh Pirates fell out of the right field stands during the seventh inning and landed on the PNC Park warning track 21 feet below.

Said to be an adult male in a statement provided by the Pirates after the game ended, the fan was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in critical condition, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

The game was delayed for 10 minutes while paramedics and the teams’ trainers strapped the man to a backboard and carted him off the field.

Multiple Cubs players on the field spent the delay taking a knee and offering prayers for the fan, who appeared to grab the railing in front of him with two hands and then flipped over it and out of the bleachers. He then hit the ground with his upper body.

Pittsburgh Public Safety said detectives from the violent crimes unit of the Pittsburgh police were investigating the incident.

The Pirates defeated the Cubs 4-3.
