On Tuesday, Tucker Carlson, the popular former host of Fox News, posted the first episode of his new program on Twitter.

The 10-minute-27-second video began with the notable host saying, “Hey, it’s Tucker Carlson,” while sitting at a desk in what appeared to be his residence in rural Maine.

Following the intro, Carlson commented on a recent dam disaster in Ukraine that prompted widespread evacuations in the country’s war-torn nation. The incident was utilized by the Conservative commentator to poke fun at American politicians and news outlets for supporting the United States’ engagement in its conflict with Russia.

The reason for Carlson’s removal from his position as host of Fox’s 8 o’clock news hour has still not been made public by him or the network. Recent sources claim that the host’s dismissal was a result of insulting remarks he made about network leadership in text conversations that were made public, as part of a now-settled defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems.

He stated that he will bring a fresh version of his former Fox show to Twitter, which is owned by billionaire Elon Musk, in a now-viral video that was released shortly after his dismissal.

It is unknown whether Carlson’s content creation for the social media platform would infringe on the terms of his contract with Fox, which is still in effect. However, the contract reportedly disallowed the host to appear on other news networks, without mentioning social media platforms, so many have speculated that Carlson’s contract will not be effected by the decision.

Carlson asserted that the Fox News network had already broken their agreement by disclosing negative information about him to the press.

“As of today we have come to Twitter, which we hope will be the short wave radio under the blankets,” Carlson said in his first video. “We’re told there are no gatekeepers here. If that turns out to be false, we’ll leave. But in the meantime, we’re grateful to be here.”
