The first pitch was thrown during the Nationals annual “Night OUT” game, which is the longest running LGBTQ+ event in the MLB.

In a statement released monday, The Nationals said that Pelosi “is being recognized for her long-standing commitment to fighting for the rights and dignities of the LGBTQ+ community.”

The Nationals will also be reportedly donating a portion of their ticket sales from the game to Team DC, an organization that educates, “the LGBTQ community on the benefits of individual and team sports participation.”

Five dollars of every ticket sold for the game will be donated to Team DC.

The occasion follows recent reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers were criticized for their own pride night and allowing a transgender anti-Catholic group, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, to receive a community award.

The group’s welcoming sparked controversy between many fans and players.

Dodgers players Clayton Kershaw and Blake Trienen voiced their opposition towards the group’s inclusion, advocating for a “Christian Faith and Family Night” instead.

Stadium marketing executives incentivized people to show up to the game by giving away free bobbleheads and t-shirts for those who purchased a ticket.
