Two illegal migrants have been charged for the rape and assault of a 46-year-old woman near the Riegelmann Boardwalk on Coney Island in Brooklyn on Sunday night.
David Davon-Bonilla, 24, of Nicaragua held a knife to the victim’s throat and then forced himself onto her.
Meanwhile, the second assailant, Leovando Moreno, 37, of Mexico reportedly distracted and fought the victim’s 34-year-old boyfriend, who had stepped away for a moment to purchase a coffee, only to eventually return to see his girlfriend being attacked and raped.
When the boyfriend was finally able to step in, Moreno—who was standing by—allegedly hit him over the head with a large metal pipe, according to the NYPD.
The attack occurred at approximately 9 p.m. near the corner of Surf Avenue and West 16th Street, and the unidentified woman was eventually taken to a Brooklyn hospital, where she was being treated.
Davon-Bonilla has been charged with rape, assault, sexual abuse, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
Moreno has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Davon-Bonilla is reportedly a repeat offender, and he has been arrested previously for sexually assaulting another woman last year, according to Daily Mail. In June of this year, he pleaded guilty to felony assault and was later released on time served.
He illegally entered the United States through the Southern border of Texas in December 2022, under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s administration, according to The New York Post. However, it is unclear how the other assailant, Moreno, crossed into the U.S. illegally.
Both men are believed to be living at a taxpayer-funded migrant shelter in the city.
“Citywide rapes have increased by 11% this year compared to the same time in 2023, according to NYPD data,” local outlet Pix11 reported.
