After spending Easter weekend at Camp David with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, Hunter arrived at the White House on Sunday night with his wife, Melissa Cohen, and their son, Beau.

The family vacation coincided with the joint investigation into the alleged Biden family corruption by Republicans on the House Oversight and Judiciary committees. Additionally, those committees are looking into the president’s impeachment.

Instead of holding an impeachment vote, these committees are reportedly considering making criminal referrals.

According to reports, Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) considered criminal referrals following the two committees’ joint hearing last week that included testimony from multiple former business associates of Hunter. They testified to the extent of Biden’s involvement in his son’s business dealings, which the White House has denied.

Comer has not indicated which individuals these criminal referrals would target, but they may offer Republicans a means of ease to those who are worried that the Biden family will be held accountable for the alleged influence-peddling scheme, even though the party appears unlikely to have the necessary votes to impeach the president.

Hunter’s trial in Los Angeles for allegedly failing to pay more than $1.4 million in federal taxes on foreign income between 2016 and 2019 is scheduled to begin on June 20th.
