Former President George W. Bush will not be endorsing a candidate ahead of the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
When asked if he would be throwing his support behind either candidate, Bush and his wife answered “No,” according to NBC News.
“President Bush retired from presidential politics years ago,” Laura Bush said.
The former Republican president’s abstinence follows merely a day after Dick Cheney, his former vice president, announced his intentions of crossing party lines and supporting Kamala Harris.
“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Cheney stated. “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”
Following Cheney’s declaration, 45th President Donald Trump fired back on Truth Social, calling Cheney “an irrelevant RINO, along with his daughter, who lost by the largest margin in the History of Congressional Races!”
Although Bush claims to be apolitical on presidential voting, Bush stated that he wrote in former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice when voting in the 2020 presidential election, and has opted to focus on voting for Republican Senators instead.
Former Representative Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), the former Vice President’s daughter, has opted to cross party lines and vote for Harris in the upcoming November election.
“I don’t believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states,” she stated. “As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this. Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris.”
The Harris-Walz campaign has been indirectly seeking Republican politicians’ approval, after stating that she would be open to appointing a Republican into her cabinet if elected.
Liz Cheney has completely flipped her stance on Harris as she has called Harris a “radical liberal” in the past, leaving skeptics questioning the 180 degree change in Liz Cheney’s rhetoric regarding Harris.
