Former California Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero is the latest Democrat to denounce her party affiliation in favor of her Republican counterparts.
“Today I say goodbye, adios, I’ve had enough,” Romero announced.
Romero, a lifelong Democrat, cited the far-left direction the Democrat party has moved in as one of the critical reasons she decided to make the switch.
“This is a Democratic Party that I no longer recognized,” she stated. “it has moved so far to the left, it’s been the party that marched towards war, towards censorship, towards authoritarianism.”
Romero also mentioned Democrat nominee Kamala Harris’s lackluster track record as a California attorney general as another major reason for the switch, as well as blocking education reforms in favor of big donors, rather than struggling Californian students.
“I have tried championing school choice, education freedom in California,” Romero stated. “Her record as attorney general showed that she did nothing to change the schools, to provide for school choice. In her hometown of Oakland, Calif., today, 75% of both African-American and Latino children are not reading or doing math a basic levels of proficiency, and yet, she went to court with the teachers union – very powerful big donors – to block education reforms that these families had the courage to go to court and sue over. That is the record of the attorney general of California.”
Romero continued by stating that Harris was attempting to “pass a bill that looked to jail mothers of students who were truant and not going to school.”
Additionally, Romero mentioned that many of her Democrat colleagues are either changing their party registration, or are planning to vote for GOP candidate Donald Trump due to “the absence of school choice, education freedom, open borders, crime rampant – a mockery of citizenship itself.”
“Blue California may be blue, but people are ready to vote for change, to make America great again, and I take pride in saying that today,” Romero added.
Trump and Harris are set to square off in an extremely high stakes debate on Tuesday, September 10th.
The 90-minute debate is scheduled to air live on ABC News at 9pm ET.
The two parties agreed to a coin toss, which Trump won, allowing him to end the debate with the final word.
Although Harris’s camp asked for debate notes and unmuted mics, ABC will not allow for either requests to be granted.
