President Joe Biden lost his footing and accidentally fell on stage on Thursday after commending the U.S. Air Force Academy’s Class of 2023 graduates for choosing “service over self.”

An Air Force Academy graduate had been shaking hands with the U.S. president, when he suddenly stumbled to the floor. After a few seconds and many concerned looks from the audience, Biden was finally helped up by nearby military members and presidential security officials.

Prior to the fall, he added that the graduates now had the “great privilege” of leading in a world that will only become more complex in the years to come.

“Graduates, you made a noble choice to lead a life of service,” Biden said to over 900 cadets in remarks on the field at Falcon Stadium in Colorado. “Now you also shoulder a great privilege and a mighty responsibility. Leadership, yeah leadership.”

“In the years ahead, your airmen and guardians are going to look to you for guidance and inspiration because the world is going to get more confusing,” he continued. “They’ll put their trust in you. You, in turn, must strive to always be worthy of their confidence.”
