Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said the U.S. plans to ease sanctions on Huawei to allow U.S. companies to wean themselves off their dependence on the Chinese tech giant.
Recently leaked documents are raising new concerns surrounding Chinese tech giant Huawei. On Monday, leaked internal documents obtained by the Washington Post revealed Huawei worked with a Chinese-state owned tech firm for at least eight years on a variety of projects centered in North Korea.
The White House appears open to re-evaluating its stance on Huawei, in order to revive trade talks with China. White House Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin will host a meeting about the issue on Monday.Tech executives from companies like Intel and Qualcomm are expected to attend.
