House Speaker Kevin McCarthy remains confident he has the votes to pass a bill pairing a raise in the debt limit with spending cuts, but some conservative lawmakers appear hesitant to support the measure.

More U.S. lawmakers arrive in Taiwan

Thursday saw the arrival of a bipartisan congressional delegation to Taiwan, one day after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy defied China by meeting with the president of the island. This comes as China claims Taiwan is its territory.
