Spring professional football leagues XFL and the United States Football League (USFL) are merging to make one super league.

The two football leagues made the announcement on Thursday, issuing a joint statement revealing their intention to merge.

“Subject to customary regulatory approvals and if the transaction is consummated, the new league will establish best-in-class operations based on the most recent seasons of both leagues,” the leagues said in a joint statement.

“This historic combination will anchor professional spring football with substantial capabilities and resources to ensure future growth and continue to enhance the development of the collective players, coaches, and staff that are coming together,” the statement read.

Entertainer and former professional wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his ex-wife, Dany Garcia, own the XFL, while Fox Corp owns the USFL.

The XFL came back in 2023 after it initially rebooted in 2020 before being shut down and sold during the COVID-19 pandemic, with each team playing in their own stadiums.

No further information has been released on whether all 16 teams will play in their home cities in 2024. Additional information will come in the near future.
