The White House has pushed back on Special Counsel Robert Hur’s testimony that he did not exonerate President Joe Biden.

After Tuesday’s hearing, the spokesman for the White House council’s office, Ian Sams, said the evidence didn’t support bringing charges declaring the case closed.

Hur stood by his report questioning Biden’s age and mental competence. These comments drew staunch criticism from the White House and Democrats.

He also said that he did not sanitize his explanation nor disparage Biden unfairly.

However, the White House took the stance of several Democrats at the hearing, claiming the report cleared Biden of any wrongdoing.

“You either charge or you don’t charge,” Sams said. “And so, if that’s the decision and the decision is made after a 15-month sprawling investigation looking at every possible theory, turning over every rock to try to find any evidence that they can, and the evidence does not support bringing charges, that presumption of innocence take it to another level. There is not case here. The president is innocent. And that was the conclusion of this case.”

Hur maintained that Biden willfully retained the classified documents.

Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) pointed out during the testimony that Biden stood to gain $8 million in doing so, helping him write his book.
