On Saturday night, while visiting relatives and friends, Charlotte mysteriously vanished after taking a solo bike ride near Moreau Lake State Park.

“Last evening, she went out on a bike ride; it wasn’t dark, right around dinnertime…” New York Democrat Governor Kathy Hochul said in a Sunday afternoon news conference. “Literally 15 minutes later, she hadn’t come back yet,” the governor continued. “And that’s really when the nightmare begins.”

New York State Police said that a suspect was now in their custody and that the investigation was still underway on Monday.

(Oct. 3) Suspect Update: According to an arraignment memorandum made public on Tuesday, Craig Nelson Ross Jr., 46, was the culprit who abducted the young girl. the 46-year-old man accused of kidnapping 9-year-old Charlotte Sena in upstate New York had intended to obtain money from her parents.

Ross Jr. “wrote a ransom letter with the intent to compel the payment of money as ransom for her.”

Since police were able to collect his finger prints from the ransom note, New York authorities were then able to run the prints in their identification system where it was traced back to a previous DUI charge from Ross Jr.

He now faces a first-degree abduction allegation, and officials indicated further charges were likely.

According to the document, a preliminary hearing is planned for October 6th. A news release from the New York State Police stated that he was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility without posting bail.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
