Tulsi Gabbard claimed she rejected an offer to become independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s running mate.
The ex-Democrat Congresswoman from Hawaii did not give a reason on why she was against taking the opportunity.
Gabbard, who left the Democrat party in 2022, said her and Kennedy have met over time and are now friends.
“I met with Kennedy several times, and we have become good friends,” Gabbard told ABC News.
“He asked if I would be his running mate. After careful consideration, I respectfully declined.”
Gabbard’s name had been thrown into the pool of potential contenders, which included former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers and others.
However, Kennedy eventually announced last week that he was choosing Silicon Valley lawyer Nicole Shanahan, who fully supported Kennedy’s presidential bid.
The newly picked running mate is the ex-wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, who is the 10th richest person in the world, according to Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, last October, Kennedy switched from Democrat to Independent, after voicing his concerns of the Democrat party, pointing out issues similar to Gabbard’s.
A source close to the Kennedy campaign confirmed to the New York Post, “There were definitely meetings, but it didn’t work out.”
“We talked to a bunch of people,” that source continued. “Tulsi’s a rock star no matter what.”
Additionally, Gabbard has also been floated as a potential VP for former President Donald Trump and has expressed an openness to joining that ticket.
Gabbard also blamed the Democrat Party for her departure, claiming they have desires to be “warmongers.”
According to the latest poll from FiveThirtyEight, Trump is in the lead to become the next president with 43% of the support, Joe Biden garnering 40% and Kennedy receiving 11%.
