President Donald Trump says he’s pretty sure he knows who he wants as the new Federal Reserve chairman and it’s not Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

On Tuesday, Trump told reporters that he’d love to have Bessent in the role but that he does not want the job.

President Trump revealed his administration has been in talks with several different candidates, adding he wants current chair Jerome Powell out of there immediately.

“He’s a fool. He’s a stupid man,” the president said when talking about Powell.

While he did not name any candidates specifically, he did say he has a variety of candidates in mind for the high-ranking roll.

Bessent told reporters they will be sitting down with the remaining candidates in the “near future.”
