President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Florida Republican Representative Matt Gaetz for the role of attorney general.

On Wednesday, Trump announced the nomination in a statement on Truth Social.

“It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States,” Trump said. “Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice.”

Gaetz (R-Fla.) took to X (Twitter) to respond to the president-elect, saying “It will be an honor to serve as President Trump’s Attorney General!”

Currently in his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Gaetz is a member of the 118th Congress.

He is a member of both the House Judiciary and the House Armed Services Committees. His work in Congress is centered on Constitutional observance, veterans’ issues, and national security.

Gaetz is a strong supporter of President Donald Trump and was an ardent supporter of his acquittal during the Russia Hoax and the politicized impeachment investigation that followed.

Leading more than fifty Republican colleagues into their closed-door, secret impeachment investigation to see the proceedings, Gaetz led the push for transparency during the Democrats’ politicized impeachment depositions.

Gaetz “has authored key pieces of legislation on foreign policy, veterans’ health care, immigration, climate change, and more during his time in office. In 2019, Matt introduced the “Green Real Deal,” a plan to address climate change by harnessing the power of free markets, embracing technological innovation and entrepreneurship, and cutting excessive governmental red tape,” his official website states.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
