Former Democrat President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama have publicly dismissed the ongoing divorce rumors that have been plaguing the couple since January.

The earliest divorce speculation regarding Barack and Michelle Obama emerged in January 2025, after Michelle chose not to attend two high-profile events, forcing Barack to appear alone: the state funeral of former Democrat President Jimmy Carter and President Donald Trump’s second inauguration.

Most recently, appearing alongside his wife and brother-in-law, Craig Robinson, on Wednesday’s episode of the siblings’ podcast “IMO,” Barack stepped into the camera’s view to join the discussion.

Michelle has addressed the speculation during previous occasions as well, claiming that if anything truly serious was going on, then “everybody would know about it,” while emphasizing that her decision to skip certain public events was about “personal priorities,” not marital discord.

Although the primary focus of the episode was discussing the challenges of raising young men, the trio opened with seemingly playful banter, where the three poked fun at the “rumors” surrounding the Obamas’ marriage.

Barack emphasized that while the couple have been supporting their daughters, and girls in general, there’s been far less focus on guiding boys and young men. That neglect can have broader consequences—boys feeling unseen or marginalized can easily gravitate toward unhealthy ideologies involving violence or misogyny, he suggested.

“Wait, you guys like each other?” Robinson quipped when Barack entered the conversation, prompting Michelle to reply, “Oh yeah, the rumor mill.”

“She took me back.” It was touch-and-go for a while,” Barack responded.

“It’s so nice to have you both in the same room together,” Robinson continued, to which his sibling Michelle responded, “I know, ’cause when we aren’t, folks think we’re divorced.”

She continued to speak on her relationship later in the podcast as well.

“There hasn’t been one moment in our marriage where I thought about quittin’ my man. And we’ve had some really hard times,” Michelle continued. “We have had a lot of fun times, a lot of adventures, and I have become a better person because of the man I’m married to.”
