The Justice Department has revealed on Tuesday that former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey are now under criminal investigation for their alleged role in the 2016 Trump-Russia collusion hoax.

The investigations are reportedly looking into whether Brennan and Comey unlawfully engaged in investigations against President Donald Trump during the 2016 election cycle regarding the Russian interference claims, according to Fox News.

Department of Justice (DOJ) sources speaking with Fox News claim that CIA Director John Ratcliffe disclosed evidence of “wrongdoing” by Brennan to FBI Director Kash Patel, leading to the investigation.

The report added that specific details into Comey’s investigation was not made clear, however the FBI is reportedly investigating the interactions between the two as a “conspiracy.”

The investigation follows after Ratcliffe declassified a review of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) last week, which concluded that Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election by helping then-presidential candidate Trump.

Ratcliffe’s review found that the 2017 ICA was full of “procedural anomalies,” and was clearly rushed.

The review also criticized the inclusion of the Steele Dossier, which is a widely discredited document alleging Trump and his associates had ties to Russia. The document was commissioned by Fusion GPS for GOP opponents of Trump, and later the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Ratcliffe’s review concluded that the “decision by agency heads to include the Steele Dossier in the ICA ran counter to fundamental tradecraft principles and ultimately undermined the credibility of a key judgment.”

Additionally, a newly declassified email sent to Brennan in December of 2016 by the former deputy CIA director reveals that there were objections to placing the Steele Dossier in the ICA, which jeopardized “the credibility of the entire paper.”

“Despite these objections, Brennan showed a preference for narrative consistency over analytical soundness,” Ratcliffe’s review explains. “When confronted with specific flaws in the Dossier by the two mission center leaders – one with extensive operational experience and the other with a strong analytic background – he appeared more swayed by the Dossier’s general conformity with existing theories than by legitimate tradecraft concerns.”

Brennan has since testified before the House Judiciary Committee claiming that he believes the dossier should not have been included in the ICA report.

“The CIA was very much opposed to having any reference or inclusion of the Steele dossier in the Intelligence Community Assessment,” Brennan stated in May 2023.
