Representative Elise Stefanik has called for Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to resign over the Pentagon’s failure to inform the president and Congress about his hospitalization for multiple days.

In a post on X on Monday, the New York Republican contended that the DOD’s ‘lack of transparency’ showed a shocking ‘lack of judgment’ and poses a national security threat.

Stefanik (R-N.Y.) also called for a congressional investigation into the matter.

The Pentagon’s failure to be more forthcoming about the defense secretary’s health is also raising alarms among Democrats on Capitol Hill.

However, the White House says Joe Biden continues to have complete confidence in Austin.

The defense secretary resumed his duties on Friday. Officials have yet to say when he will be released from the hospital. He is no longer in the ICU.
