In addition to PepsiCo recalling Schweppes Zero Sugar Ginger Ale, the company is now recalling their Mug Root Beer soda as well.

The company recalled over 2,000 cases of regular Mug Root Beer after it was reported that the cans had actually contained Mug ‘Zero Sugar’ root beer.

The recall commenced on March 22nd, but the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) only officially announced the investigation on Wednesday.

According to the notice, the recall impacts 2,801 12-pack cases of soda sold in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

The items affected in the recall have the code “JUL2224XXXXAS02234” and a best by date of “July 22, 2024,” on the case packaging.

The announcement was made shortly after Pepsi recalled its Schweppes Zero Sugar Ginger Ale Caffeine Free beverage cans due to the presence of regular, full-sugar soda pop. According to the notice, an “internal investigation” showed that 233 cases of cans of the ginger ale labeled “Zero Sugar” were actually a “full sugar product.”

The soda’s sugar could be considered harmful to many consumers, like diabetics, who are purposely trying to avoid sugar.

The affected cans had the code information “May 20, 24, MAY20240520VS02164 – MAY20240550VS02164” and were shipped to three states: Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

As for the investigation regarding the ginger ale cans that began on March 9th, it is still currently “ongoing,” according to the FDA. It applies to the cases containing 7.5-fluid-ounce (221 milliliter) cans of ginger ale: UPC 0 78000 02965 9.

However, since the recall was just recently reported by the FDA, it is not clear if the mislabeled Mug Root Beer is still being sold at stores.
