Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, a Republican from North Carolina, suffered second degree burns while attending a truck exhibition in Mount Airy, and as a result, he was admitted to the hospital on Friday.
“Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is currently being treated for burns following an incident at a campaign event in Mt. Airy. He is in good spirits,” according to Matt Hurley, a campaign staffer for the lieutenant governor.
βHe is in good spirits,β Hurley added.
A Washington Post journalist reported that Robinson, 56, severely burned his hand after leaning against a hot truck at the Mayberry Truck Show.
Hundreds of customized semi trucks and trailers could be seen on display during the yearly event.
However, Robinson is “fine and at home now,” according to a lieutenant governor’s staff member who learned the news late on Friday night, The Washington Post reported.
In the past several weeks, Robinson has been challenging Democrat Josh Stein (D-N.C.) in the gubernatorial election in North Carolina.
With less than two months until Election Day, Robinson currently trails Stein by 10.9 percentage points, according to the most recent RealClearPolitics poll.
