NYC Mayor Eric Adams slammed President Joe Biden for turning a blind eye to his calls for assistance, claiming the White House has provided “no support” for the thousands of asylum seekers who have arrived each month.
Adams (D-N.Y.) has only recently voiced growing concerns that the rising migrant issue will “destroy” New York City. When the city first welcomed the influx of migrants, Adams expressed glee over NYC’s sanctuary status.
“I’m gonna tell you something, New Yorkers, never in my life have I had a problem that I didn’t see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this,” Adams said on Wednesday night. “This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City.”
Adams called out Biden for not stepping in with further federal assistance, as the Big Apple has reportedly received more than 110,000 migrants this past year.
“Month after month I stood up and said this is gonna come to a neighborhood near you. Well, we’re here, we’re getting no support on this national crisis, and we’re receiving no support,” Adams maintained.
Greg Abbott (R-Texas), the Republican governor of Texas, was also called a “madman” by Adams for transporting illegal border crossers by bus to New York and other cities in Democrat states.
“Go item for item on what Eric Adams ran for as a candidate and look at what we accomplished in 20 months: We turned this city around in 20 months, and then what happened?” Adams said. “Started with a madman down in Texas who decided he wanted to bus people up to New York City.”
On August 5th, 2022, the first bus from Texas carrying illegal migrants landed in Midtown’s Port Authority, and hundreds more have since appeared in five other New York boroughs.
“One hundred ten thousand migrants we have to feed, clothe, house, educate the children, wash their laundry sheets, give them everything they need, health care,” Adams said.
According to information released by Abbott earlier this week, Texas has transferred nearly 13,000 migrants to New York.
The mayor claimed that the Big Apple receives about 10,000 migrants each month, mostly from Venezuela but also from Mexico and Ecuador.
“Now we’re getting Western Africa, now we’re getting people from all over the globe that made their minds up that they’re gonna come through the southern border and coming to New York City,” Adams added.
The expenses have reverberated throughout NYC, as the government is currently spending millions to house the migrants.
“Everyone is saying it is New York City’s problem. Every community in this city is going to be impacted. We have a $12 billion deficit that we’re going to have to cut. Every service in this city is going to be impacted, all of us,” Adams said. “All of us are going to be impacted by this. I said it last year when we had 15,000 and I’m telling you now with 110,000. The city we knew, we’re about to lose, and we are all in this together, all of us.”
According to two recent Sienna College polls, 82% of New Yorkers agree that the situation is a severe problem for the city, and another 58% say that the influx of immigrants coming in from the southern border should be stopped.
The Biden administration was also criticized on Wednesday by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) for the “dangerous” effects of its border policy on the Empire State.
“Joe Biden’s Far Left open border policies have caused our Northern Border to see an unprecedented and historic surge in illegal immigration and Kathy Hochul’s ‘Sanctuary State’ policies have further incentivized this dangerous surge,” Stefanik said.
