A London high court judge has thrown out a legal challenge by former President Donald Trump over the infamous Steele dossier produced by a former British spy.
Thursday’s ruling stated that Trump’s damages claim fell outside of a six-year period of limitations. Additionally, Judge Karen Steyn said that there were no “compelling reasons” to let the 45th president’s case go to trial.
Trump has been actively working to sue Orbis Business Intelligence, which was founded by Christopher Steele, regarding its data protection grounds.
In 2017, a dossier was released by Steele containing unsubstantiated allegations about Trump’s personal conduct. It also claimed that there was misconduct and conspiracy-related issues between Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign and Russia. The controversial report was published without permission.
Additionally, the “Russian collusion” theory that Trump’s detractors consistently spewed for a number of months and years has since been proven to be false and the Senate Intelligence Committee found no proof of Russian meddling.
Trump’s campaign spokesman Steven Cheung later responded to the decision, saying that the court found that there was “not even an attempt” by Steele or his group to justify or prove their “false and defamatory allegations in the fake dossier.”
“The High Court in London has found that there was not even an attempt by Christopher Steele, or his group, to justify or try to prove, which they absolutely cannot, their false and defamatory allegations in the fake dossier,” Cheung said.
He continued, expressing that Trump will keep fighting for the truth and against any falsehoods, such as ones regurgitated by Steele and his cohorts.
“The High Court also found that there was processing, utilization, of those false statements,” Cheung continued. “President Trump will continue to fight for the truth and against falsehoods such as ones promulgated by Steele and his cohorts.”
