Liz Cheney (R-WY) presides over a hearing of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol in the Cannon House Office Building on July 21, 2022 in Washington, DC. Former Representative Liz Cheney says she believes Donald Trump should be barred from holding public office. However, she acknowledged that the decision is ultimately up to the courts.

In an interview on Sunday, Cheney (R-Wyo.), who sat on the January 6th committee, invoked the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause.

Despite Cheney’s argument, a judge in her own state of Wyoming dismissed efforts to remove Trump from the primary ballot.

As the legal challenges continue, Cheney admitted that opponents of the 45th president will likely still have to beat him in an electoral contest.

This comes after Cheney made a similar argument during a speaking event in Hanover, New Hampshire.

According to FiveThirtyEight, President Trump leads the Republican field in New Hampshire with more than 42% of the vote.
