Law enforcement standoff with hundreds of protesters outside of an Illinois Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility, where United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem was spotted.

On Friday, police reportedly began making arrests of disruptive protesters who were “sitting in the road and refused to multiple requests to move and warnings,” an Illinois State Police spokesperson said.

At the facility in Broadview, Illinois, 10 miles from Chicago, Broadview police officers and Cook County Sheriffs were advised to put on gas masks in the altercation.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D-Ill.) called for Kristi Noem to “face the public” regarding the immigration raids in Chicago.

“Federal agents reporting to Secretary Noem have spent weeks snatching up families, scaring law-abiding residents, violating due process rights, and even detaining U.S. citizens,” Pritzker wrote on X earlier on Friday. “They fail to focus on violent criminals and instead create panic in our communities.”

“Secretary Noem should no longer be able to step foot inside the State of Illinois without any form of public accountability,” he said.

“It’s been nearly 45 days since Secretary Noem has held an official press conference, so it’s time she faces the public and takes questions from the press to be held accountable for the Trump Administration’s gross misconduct,” the governor continued.

Additionally, Pritzker commented on the thread, adding: “Illinois is not a photo opportunity or warzone, it’s a sovereign state where our people deserve rights, respect, and answers.”

Noem and El Centro Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino were seen on the ICE facility’s roof just before 8 a.m., where they could watch the several law enforcement agencies clash with unruly protestors. They were accompanied by law enforcement officials and a camera crew.

Protesters chanted and held signs that read, “ICE melts under resistance” and “Hate has no home here.”
