The Justice Department has charged Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, with two tax misdemeanor charges and illegal possession of a firearm.
Biden will plead guilty to the two tax misdemeanor charges and has agreed to enter a “Pretrial Diversion Agreement with respect to the firearm Information.”
According to NBC News, the plea agreement includes a “provision in which the U.S. attorney has agreed to recommend probation for Biden for his tax violation.”
Legal experts also say that the three charges filed against Hunter Biden will likely not result in any jail time.
The charges indicate an end to the five-year investigation by federal prosecutors, FBI agents, and IRS officials.
Hunter Biden’s attorney, Chris Clark spoke with NBC News and said that his client “will take responsibility,” and is looking forward to “continuing his recovery and moving forward.”
“With the announcement of two agreements between my client, Hunter Biden, and the Unites States Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware, it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved,” Clark said. “Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement. A firearm charge, which will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement and will not be the subject of the plea agreement, will also be filed by the Government. I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward.”
A date will be scheduled for an arraignment in the future, and Biden is expected to surrender to Delaware authorities and is to be processed by U.S. Marshals.
