Lebanese Islamist terrorist group Hezbollah unleashed an onslaught of drone and rocket attacks on Israel on Tuesday that left two Israeli troops wounded.
Additionally, the militant organization also warned that another attack is to come in the future since Israel’s assassination of a top Hamas commander.
According to Hezbollah, two military sites near Acre in northern Israel and an Israeli military vehicle in another location were among the spots targeted in the latest attack. However, the rocket and drone attacks did not appear to be the more intense retaliation that is now expected from Iran and its allied militias.
The Israeli military confirmed that a number of attacking drones had been identified crossing over from Lebanon, with at least one intercepted.
Meanwhile, an insider source familiar with Hezbollah’s operations reached out to the outlet Reuters on Tuesday, saying, “the response to the assassination of commander Fuad Shukr has not yet come.”
A top Iranian diplomat warned on Monday that the response to the two slayings of the Hamas and Hezbollah leaders would be “definitive and decisive.”
“Such aggression cannot go unanswered,” Iranian acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri-Kani said during a meeting of fellow foreign diplomats in Tehran.
“The Islamic Republic’s response will be definitive and decisive,” he continued.
In addition, the Wall Street Journal reported that an unnamed Arab diplomat said that one Iranian official had speculated on Monday that the attack could occur “imminently” within 48 hours.
It repeats the same message that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken gave during a call with G7 foreign ministers on Sunday.
“We are engaged in intense diplomacy, pretty much around the clock, with a very simple message — all parties must refrain from escalation,” Blinken said in the wake of the White House crisis talks.
“It’s also critical that we break this cycle by reaching a cease-fire in Gaza,” he added.
President Joe Biden held talks on Monday in Washington, D.C., regarding the potential Iranian counterattack against Israel.
