The announcement came Thursday, by WWE chief content officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque on social media.

Wyatt had not participated in WWE events over the past several months, while dealing with an undisclosed health issue.

The wrestler first signed with the WWE in 2009, and made it to the main roster in 2012.

However, he returned to the company in September of last year with a mysterious storyline, which helped boost television ratings.

“Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda also known as Bray Wyatt, unexpectedly passed earlier today,” Levesque wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time.”

A cause of death has not been revealed for the wrestler but Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported it was due to a heart attack.

According to Fightful, Wyatt had been off the map recovering from a “life-threatening illness,” with heart issues due to COVID.

Former and current WWE wrestlers offered their condolences to Wyatt’s family.

“I’m heartbroken over the news of Bray Wyatt’s passing,” Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Always had tremendous respect and love for him and the Rotunda family. Loved his presence, promos, in ring work and connection with @wwe universe. Very unique, cool and rare character, which is hard to create in our crazy world of pro wrestling. Still processing losing the goat, Terry Funk yesterday and now Bray today.”

The wrestler is survived by his fiancé, former WWE ring announcer JoJo Offerman, their two children and two children from a previous relationship.
