According to Musk’s tax filings, he donated $100 million to his charity, The Foundation, in order to establish a primary and secondary Stem school in Austin.

He will seek accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges for launching the university.

The Foundation stated that the curriculum would “combine formal instruction by experienced faculty in subjects such as mathematics, science, engineering and physics, alongside hands-on learning experience including simulations, case studies, fabrication/design projects, and labs.”

Additionally, the school is aiming to enroll 50 students, admitting students based on merits.

“The school does not want the inability to pay tuition or fees to be a barrier for students. Thus, if a student is admitted to the school, tuition and financial support will be provided to the extent of available resources,” the tax filing says.

The filing added that the school will be funded through donations and tuition fees.

In a 2015 interview, Musk explained how he had enrolled his five children in the Ad Astra, which was later renamed to Astra Nova.

Musk moved the Tesla headquarters to Austin in 2021.
