Google has released a list of top search trends for 2025, with Charlie Kirk, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Zohran Mamdani, and Kpop Demon Hunters at the forefront of people’s minds this year.

Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was this year’s No. 1 trending search in the U.S. in 2025 after he was assassinated at a campus event at Utah Valley University on September 10th.

Additionally, Tyler Robinson, the suspected assassin accused of fatally shooting Kirk in the neck, was the second most searched for term in Google’s “People” category, falling just behind Democratic socialist New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, who will assume office at midnight on New Year’s Eve. Erika Kirk, Charlie Kirk’s widow and the new Turning Point USA CEO, was the fourth person on the list, above Pope Lei XIV, who became the first pope from the United States this year, making history.

Charlie Kirk’s assassination was the third most searched news story, according to Google, behind the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed by President Donald Trump on the 4th of July, and the Government shutdown, which set a record for the longest lapse in government funding, lasting 43 days, as Democrats in Congress pushed for an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies.
