Kevin O’Connor, former Democrat President Joe Biden’s physician during his last White House term, declined to answer questions about Biden’s cognitive decline, pleading the Fifth Amendment.
According to a statement from Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.), O’Connor pleaded the Fifth Amendment, declining to testify in a closed-door interview as part of the House GOP probe into Biden’s mental decline and whether his inner circle sought to conceal his limitations from the public.
“Dr. O’Connor pleaded the Fifth Amendment,” Comer revealed. “I’m gonna read the first two questions that were asked.”
“‘Were you ever told to lie about the president’s health?’ He pleaded the Fifth Amendment,” the chairman said. “‘Did you ever believe President Biden was unfit to execute his duties?’ Again, President Biden’s White House physician pleaded the Fifth Amendment.”
An Oversight spokesperson stated that the only question that O’Connor answered, before the deposition concluded, was confirming his full name.
Comer noted it was “clear there was a conspiracy to cover up” the 46th president’s declining mental acuity.
“This is unprecedented, and I think that this adds more fuel to the fire that there was a cover-up,” Comer declared.
“Congress must assess legislative solutions to prevent such a coverup from happening again,” he added. “We will continue to interview more Biden White House aides to get the answers Americans deserve.”
The next scheduled interview is on Friday with Ashley Williams, the former Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Oval Office Operations.
“There’s more and more evidence that comes out every day that would suggest that the president was in a pretty severe mental decline, so we’re going to ask about that,” Comer had said before the deposition.
“We can’t have the physician’s office not being truthful about the health condition of the president,” he added, noting that the interview was part of a larger investigation into who in the Biden White House was authorized to use an autopen that signed executive actions and pardons.
Annie Tomasini, the former assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff, will be interviewed on July 18th.
Comer told reporters that O’Connor, highlighting his “Constitutional right against self-incrimination,” added more credibility to the bombshell charges in the Biden White House tell-all “Original Sin,” which was published on May 20th by journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson.
The co-authors claimed that a “Politburo” of close senior advisers, including Tomasini, operated as the “ultimate decision-makers” in the former White House administration.
Other alleged “Politburo” members who will sit for interviews with the Oversight panel include former White House chief of staff Ron Klain (July 24th), former counselor to the president Steve Ricchetti (July 30th), former senior adviser Mike Donilon (July 31th) and former deputy chief of staff for policy Bruce Reed (August 5th).
In addition, Anita Dunn, who served as a senior adviser for communications to the president, will sit for a transcribed interview August 7th.
On Tuesday, O’Connor had asked to delay his testimony before the House Oversight Committee, citing the need for an agreement that will respect doctor-patient confidentiality rules.
