On Friday, President Joe Biden attended the honorable transfer of the three American soldiers who were killed in Jordan this week in a drone strike that the United States has linked to militant groups with Iranian support.
At the Center for Families of the Fallen at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, the relatives of the three fallen servicemen were first met by the president and first lady Jill Biden. The chaplain prayed as the Bidens stood at the base of the aircraft that returned the service members’ remains to the United States.
They then rejoined the formation on the tarmac, and a carry team from the military branch of the fallen members removed the service members’ flag-draped transfer cases from the aircraft.
Later, the soldier’s remains were transferred to a waiting van so that they could be ready for their final resting places at a mortuary.
Following the event, Biden went back to Air Force One. He did not make any public speeches.
Every American service man who falls in combat overseas is given a dignified sendoff. Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, who was posthumously promoted to sergeant; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, who was also posthumously promoted to sergeant, were the three reserve soldiers who were transferred on Friday.
All three soldiers were from Georgia.
“They risked it all, and we’ll never forget the sacrifice and service to our country that the dozens of service members who were wounded in recovery now,” Biden said.
This week, White House representatives announced that the United States will choose the “time and place” for its retribution against the Iran-backed forces they claim are behind Sunday’s attack, and that it may take “weeks.”
According to two U.S. insider sources, when an explosives-packed drone struck the base close to a bunker where some troops were resting, more than 30 additional service members were injured in addition to the three soldiers who died.
In a statement announcing their deaths, Biden referred to the troops as “patriots in the highest sense.” “Their ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten by our nation,” he continued.
