On Monday, 50 people were hurt on a plane traveling from Sydney, Australia, to Auckland, New Zealand, in what airline officials described as a “strong movement.”

The airline released a statement saying that there was “a technical event during the flight that caused a strong movement,” but it did not elaborate on what prompted the drop.

After landing, passengers were met by paramedics, and there were over 10 emergency vehicles waiting.

According to reports, ten passengers and three crew members were taken to the hospital, and 50 other people were treated at the scene for mild injuries. One person is believed to be in serious condition.

Airline officials claim that many people were reportedly not wearing seatbelts when flight LA800 abruptly dropped.

As planned, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner touched down at Auckland Airport and it was supposed to proceed travel to Santiago, Chile.

“LATAM regrets the inconvenience and injury this situation may have caused its passengers and reiterates its commitment to safety as a priority within the framework of its operational standards,” the airline said.

A Boeing spokesperson said that the company was working to gather more information and would provide any support for the airline.
