The late fitness “guru” Richard Simmons’s cause of death has been revealed by his brother and public relations representative.

“Richard’s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor. The toxicology report was negative other than medication Richard had been prescribed,” said Thomas (Tom) Estey, Simmons’s PR representative, in a statement to People Magazine.
Estey also noted that he was citing information received from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
“The Family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss,” the statement continued.
However, the entire coroner’s report is not yet accessible to the general public.
Simmons, a well-known and flamboyant fitness personality who became popular during the workout surge of the 1980s, passed away early on July 13th, the same day that former President Donald Trump was shot in the ear during an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The day before, on the 12th, Simmons had celebrated his 76th birthday. At the time, Estey told CNN, “We lost an Angel today—a true Angel.”
Reports that Simmons had tripped and fell hard in his bathroom on his birthday night, while refusing medical attention after his housekeeper ran to attend to him and offered to call 9-1-1, emerged shortly after his passing. Simmons was discovered unconscious the next morning, laying next to his bed.
Lenny Simmons, his brother, commemorated his celebrity brother’s life in a statement that was provided to the press earlier this month.
“I don’t want people to be sad about my brother. I want them to remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought to people’s lives,” Lenny Simmons stated. “He truly cared about people. He called, wrote, and emailed thousands of people throughout his career to offer help. So don’t be sad. Celebrate his life.”
