John Curtis has won the Utah Senate race.

Democrat Caroline Gleich faced off against Republican John Curtis in the race for Utah’s Senate seat.

This race has many eyes on it, as the seat was previously held by anti-Trump Republican Mitt Romney. He has held the seat since 2019. He announced that he was not running for re-election back in 2023, as he called for a “new generation of leaders.”

Gleich is an American environmentalist, skier, and mountaineer. The 38-year-old pitched herself during her campaign as a departure from the typical statesman.

Her website states: “My journey has taken me to the world’s highest peaks, seen me testify before Congress on the impact of climate change, and found me championing environmental and social justice issues. From conquering mountains to standing up for crucial causes, I’ve expanded my passion for sports into a platform for change.”

Gleich testified before the Senate Special Committee on the Climate Crisis urging Congress to act on the climate crisis and public lands, testified before the United States House Natural Resources Committee on Natural Resources for a Hearing on H.R. 5435, the American Public Lands and Waters Climate Solution Act, and advocated for mental health awareness and cyberbullying prevention by sharing personal stories of cyber-harassment.

The Republican candidate, John Curtis, is currently the U.S. representative for Utah’s 3rd congressional district. He has held the position since 2017. Prior to being a representative, he was the mayor of Provo, Utah, from 2010 until 2017.

Curtis is a former Democrat. He ran his Senate campaign on the slogan “Gets Things Done.”

His website states, “Since being elected to Congress in 2017, John has passed 20 pieces of legislation into law, ranging in diverse topics such as better managing public lands, combating human trafficking, reducing burdensome regulations on small businesses, and more. He has been ranked by the nonpartisan Center for Effective Lawmaking as the 9th most effective Republican member of Congress.”

Curtis’ work on American energy solutions that release U.S. clean fuels, boost the US economy, improve national security, make America energy independent, and simultaneously lower global pollution has earned him an international reputation.

“During his time in Congress, John has delivered for Utahns. With a focus on energy independence, fighting reckless spending in both parties, standing up to communist China’s aggression, protecting farmers and ranchers from over-regulation and defending Utah’s land from the constant pressure of DC – he’s been busy,” Curtis’ official senate candidate page states.

At the time of this reporting, Curtis won with 55.7% of the vote compared to Gleich’s 40.1%

35% of the vote has been counted.
