President Joe Biden sent a clear message when delivering the commencement address at Morehouse College this past weekend: the American democratic system has failed Black Americans.
“It’s natural to wonder if the democracy you hear about actually works for you,” Biden said. “What is democracy, if Black men are being killed in the street? What is democracy, if portrayal of broken promises still leave Black communities behind. What is democracy, if you have to be ten times better than anyone else to get a fair shot. And most of all, what does it mean, as we’ve heard before, to be a Black man who loves his country, even if it doesn’t love him back in equal measure?”
Horace Cooper, the chairman of Project 21, says Biden should be ashamed of the tone of his speech.
“This was shameful race baiting,” Cooper told One America News. “This is Joe Biden at his worst.”
Cooper highlighted how Biden built his political career by “dividing Americans along racial lines.”
“[Biden’s] the one that talked about integration as creating a racial jungle in our public schools,” Cooper said. “He’s the one who regularly attempts to divide America. He bragged at one of his failed presidential campaigns that his state, Delaware, was a slave state. He palled around with some of the worst segregationists in the Democrat party, some of which is redundant. But this president, when running as Vice president for Barack Obama, lied to a college audience and said the policies of his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, would put Blacks back in chains.”
With numerous polls showing Biden hemorrhaging Black support in swing states, Biden attempted to tell Black college graduates that there was a racial injustice occurring in the country today. Cooper says that is simply not true.
“The truth is the EEOC reports claims of racial mistreatment against Black Americans are at record lows today,” Cooper said. “What is true is that repossessions among Black Americans are at record highs. Foreclosures among Black Americans are at record highs. Indebtedness for college is at a record high.”
Rather than celebrate around 400 Black men for graduating college, a tremendous achievement, Biden attempted to create racial animus. Biden used the monumental celebration to argue that black graduates will face tremendous obstacles due to his presidential opponent.
“Studies show that those who graduate from college end up with an income status, a home ownership status, a family formation status that is substantially higher than those who do not,” Cooper said. “This was in fact a crowning achievement. But when you have been president and your policies have made it harder for Americans, particularly black Americans to be safe in their homes, to have a financial, uh, wherewithal to be able to send their kids off to school. When you have wrecked the economy, what do you have to say? You have to run the racial boogeyman.”
Cooper says, to make matters worse for Biden, his policies have specifically hurt Black Americans, leading to the plummeting support among this group. A New York Times swing state poll showed only 63% of Black Americans supporting Biden while 23% backed Trump. Cooper says this is no coincidence.
“More Black Americans, when Donald Trump was president, were able to buy a new car for the first time,” Cooper said. “More Black Americans were able to go on a family vacation.”
The Wall Street Journal reported that fewer than 24 of the approximately 400 graduates stood to applaud Biden at the conclusion of his speech. That says everything.
