Vice President Mike Pence signals the U.S. may help investigate the disappearance of the Washington Post contributor and prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
In an interview Wednesday, Pence said the U.S. is “ready to assist in anyway” in response to questions about sending FBI agents. He also added, the free world deserves answers.
The journalist went missing after visiting the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
Pence’s comments come as Turkey accused Saudi Arabia of sending a 15 person team to assassinate the journalist.
President Trump also discussed the disappearance with reporters at the White House Wednesday.
“It’s a very sad situation, it’s a very bad situation and we want to get to the bottom of it,” said the president. “Well, I have to find out who did it, but people saw him go in…but they didn’t see come out, as they understand it and we’re going to take a very serious look at it.”
Without going into detail, the president also said he has talked with the highest levels of the Saudi government about the missing contributor.
