GOP Senator Lindsey Graham recently declared he is on board with the nomination of Patrick Shanahan to serve as secretary of defense.

In a statement Thursday, Graham said Shanahan is “a logical choice.” The South Carolina lawmaker added, he has demonstrated detailed understanding that a strong, modern, and well-trained military is essential in a dangerous and complex world.

Graham has historically been a leading voice on military matters, and his support comes as one of importance in the GOP– especially ahead of Shanahan’s confirmation.

“Biggest challenge in balancing it all — I’d say, you know for me, it’s about practicing ‘selectful’ neglect, so that we can stay focused on the future, but not ignore a lot of the emerging, really important issues that pop up day-to-day that you don’t plan for.”
