Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has been faced with heavy scrutiny after she told her constituents former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin’s conviction is “not justice.”
During a live-stream on Tuesday, the New York Democrat said verdicts are not a replacement for policy change. She then encouraged her supporters to push for radical policing reform.
Ocasio-Cortez said she doesn’t want the guilty verdict to show how the judicial system is actually working.
“This verdict is not justice,” she asserted. “Frankly, I don’t even think we call it full accountability because there are multiple officers that were there.”
