Russian president Vladimir Putin says he’s ready to restart arms control discussions with the U.S.

In an interview published Thursday, Putin said he has seen signs Washington is considering resuming bilateral dialogue, on a “wide-ranging strategic agenda.”

This comes on the heels of Russia’s formal withdrawal Wednesday from the 1987 INF treaty, following the Trump administration withdrawal in February.

Putin also denied the collapse of the treaty would prompt an arms race between Russia and the U.S.

He said he spoke with President Trump on the matter, during at the G20 summit in Japan.
