President Trump recently blasted his GOP challengers by referring to them as the “three stooges.” He specifically took aim at former South Carolina governor and congressman Mark Sanford, who announced his presidential bid Sunday.

The president blasted Sanford over his extramarital affair in 2009. Sanford had been reported missing after he told his staff he was hiking on the Appalachian Trail, but later admitted he was having an affair with his mistress in Argentina.

Sanford won a congressional seat despite the scandal, but the president said he lost reelection in 2018 after he endorsed his opponent.
