A late-December addition to the National Defense Authorization Act would require the Department of Defense to examine old records pertaining to a purported 1945 UFO sighting in New Mexico.

In July 2022, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) was established to oversee the search for “unidentified abnormal phenomena that may represent a threat to national security” as Congress searches for answers.

According to the bill, “The mission of the AARO will be to synchronize efforts across the Department of Defense, and with other U.S. federal departments and agencies, to detect, identify and attribute objects of interest in, on or near military installations, operating areas, training areas, special use airspace and other areas of interest, and, as necessary, to mitigate any associated threats to safety of operations and national security. This includes anomalous, unidentified space, airborne, submerged and transmedium objects.”

This topic was discussed on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” show with Tucker Carlson and his guest former UK Ministry of Defense official Nick Pope.

“This has been called the ‘Roswell before Roswell,’” Pope said.

Carlson had asserted that the purported sighting in 1945 occurred about the same time that the United States dropped its first atomic bomb, implying some sort of nuclear connection between the two events. Back in 1945, an “avocado-shaped” object sighting was first reported in Roswell, New Mexico. Since then, there have been numerous reports of sightings, even military sightings, of unidentified flying objects. Some of the “uncharacterized” UFOs “appear to have demonstrated unusual flight characteristics or performance capabilities” which has forced the government to launch an investigation.
