One of Kevin Spacey’s accusers is speaking out about why he decided to come forward with allegations against the Hollywood actor.

In an interview Thursday, Rent star Anthony Rapp said he went public because he wanted to make sure Spacey didn’t harm anyone else.

Rapp was the first person to publicly accuse Spacey of sexual assault in 2017, claiming the actor made inappropriate advances on him in 1986 when Rapp was just 14-years-old.

Spacey responded to the allegations on Twitter by claiming he doesn’t remember the incident. He went on to say he now chooses to live his life as a gay man.

Rapp said he hopes coming forward will help other victims do the same and prevent future incidents.

“I mean honestly, I was just concerned that that it would be something that could keep happening, so if I could do something that could make a difference, I was eager to, and I felt protected in the sense of like the people that I had in my corner were very supportive and I felt like if anything bad were to happen from it that I’d have help through that, so, I was ready for that,” he explained.

Spacey now faces felony charges for separate sexual assault allegations, stemming from an incident in 2016.
