The CDC is under fire for back-tracking on its initial guidance on the use of face coverings to prevent infections.
On Monday, political commentator and Gateway Pundit contributor Joe Hoft criticized the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for recommending masks be worn in public settings.
29 Days to go. The WHO claimed the China coronavirus had a 3.4% mortality rate – we knew they were wrong- we reported it – now the WHO reports we were right. @realDonaldTrump is right – don’t fear COVID. @gatewaypundit pic.twitter.com/2rNqOo7ZSF

This came after a recently resurfaced study published by the CDC in September found a majority of case patients who tested positive for COVID-19 reported they often or always wore a cloth mask or face covering.
Five days after the study, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield insisted masks are a guaranteed way to protect an individual from the coronavirus.
“These face masks are the most important, powerful public health tool we have,” he stated. “And I will continue to appeal for all Americans, all individuals in our country, to embrace these face coverings.”
This is a complete 180 from a statement he made back in February when her urged the general public against its use.
“There is no role for these masks in the community, they need to be prioritized for health care professionals as a part of their job that are taking care of individuals and/or individuals that have this virus and are in home quarantine for those family members,” Dr. Redfield previously stated. “I would like to prioritize the usage that we recommend and get people to realize that that is where these masks need to be reserved.”
Mask mandates have become a polarizing topic with many Americans claiming they violate individual freedoms. Additionally, some have even suggested the guidelines are being created without much scientific basis to support it.
