Attorney General William Barr says the case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Jeffrey Epstein, following the disgraced financier’s apparent suicide. Barr made the remark while speaking at the Grand Lodge Fraternal Order of Police’s 64th National Biennial Conference in New Orleans Monday.
The attorney general also said he and the whole Department of Justice were appalled and angry to learn about the Metropolitan Correctional Center’s failure to adequately secure Epstein. Barr pointed out the Justice Department’s inspector general and the FBI are both investigating “serious irregularities” at the facility.
“We will get to the bottom of what happened and there will be accountability, but let me assure you that this case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Epstein,” he stated. “Any co-conspirators should not rest easy — the victims deserve justice and they will get it.”
Barr also noted the case against Epstein was important to the Department of Justice, himself personally, prosecutors with the Southern District of New York as well as the victims.
